How To Remove Refrigerator Water Line

Nine steps on how to remove and replace the refrigerator water line.

Step 1 – First, you need to unplug the main electrical cord of your fridge. It is not necessary to remove your drinks, food, milk, and other stuff since the process will not take long to finish.

Step 2 – Pull your fridge away from where you place it to access the waterline at the back. It would also help if you call someone to assist you to remove it since some fridges are too heavy. Avoid damaging your fridge and floor while moving it.

Step 3 – Now you need to turn off the cold water supply under the sink, and let the water run out from the main faucet to completely drain your waterline.

Step 4 –  Using an adjustable wrench, consider losing the compression nut right on the nut saddle valve below the sink. Now, remove the old waterline from the main water supply.

The saddle valve has a small handle on its top and two firm metal pieces strapped on the pipe. However, remember not to disturb that saddle valve; preferably, deal with the compression nut located to the waterline.

Step 5 – Slowly loosen the compression nut and remove it from the back of your fridge. Next, pull your refrigerator water line freely, ensure you pull the whole of it from cabinets and dispose of it.

Step 6 – In this step, you need to be careful. To have enough line reaching cold water connection, you must thread that specific water replacement line through fridge cabinets.

Step 7 – Push the compression nut right from the assembly kit to copper tubing ends, which connect below the sink. Next, consider sliding the ferrule tube direct from the assembly kit of the specific copper line to the tubing end as well. After connecting your compression nut tightly to the saddle valve, tighten again using your hand, and it one-quarter turns using an adjustable wrench.

Remember, the plastic tubing utilizes the best ferrule tube and also comes with a short plastic sleeve. This fits the end of fridge tubing to avoid it from crushing. Additionally, wrap all the saddle valve threads with the Teflon tape before you connect them with a compression nut when you’re using a braided line.

Step 8 – Now we will repeat our previous step, “connection on the back of our fridge,” remember to turn the water back on it and check for any leakage. Tighten the compression nuts, “one-quarter turn,” to ensure no leakage.

Step 9 – Lastly, coil the excess line in big loops behind your refrigerator, and slide your fridge back. Plug it back into its outlet.
