How To Change a Kenmore Refrigerator Water Filter

Kenmore makes pretty good products and especially refrigerators. But now and then some parts need maintenance and sometimes need to be changed. This includes the water filter. Water filters should be changed every 6 months to keep them fresh. There is some advice on how to change a water filter in a Kenmore refrigerator. The process is easy and a person will be able to complete it at home in no time.

Steps To Change Kenmore Refrigerator Water Filter

When purchasing a new filter be sure it is the correct one for the model. The refrigerator model number can be found on the inside wall. This way the filter will fit properly.

Step 1 – To open the filter compartment push or pull its tab. The tab should be someone near the top corner. If you cannot find it then you should look in the owner’s manual.

Step 2 – Now to remove the filter it is important to turn it the correct way. The filter should be twisted counterclockwise and then pulled out. This will loosen it and make it easy to remove. A towel may need to be placed under the filter as it may drip a little. This will help make sure the work area is not wet.

Step 3 – Now its time to replace the water filter. Take out the new filter and take the seal off of the end. The port should be exposed. Some filters may have an additional covering at the other end that may need to be removed. If the filter has foil on it this needs to be removed as well.

Step 4 – Put the new filter into the compartment and turn it clockwise to secure it in. The end of the filter should go into the holes of the compartment. It can then be rotated clockwise to fit securely. Once the filter is in and it is secure the compartment can be closed. If the filter does not screw in then you may just need to push it into the compartment. This will vary based on the make and the model of the refrigerator.

Step 5 – Once the filter is in the compartment, the reset button should be pressed on the refrigerator. The button should be held down for 3 seconds and if the filter is installed correctly a green or blue light will come on. If these lights do not turn on then you need to check the filter to make sure it was installed correctly.

Steps To Change Kenmore Refrigerator Water Filter Located At The Bottom

If the filter is located at the bottom of the refrigerator then some additional steps need to be taken to replace it. A person will still need to look at the refrigerator model number to make sure they are selecting the correct filter for their refrigerator.

Step 1 – There is a filter dial attachment located on the grill under the refrigerator doors. It needs to be turned counterclockwise to remove it. Then you will be able to pull the filter right out.

The dial handle should be placed on the new filter. It is important to line up the edges and make sure they fit into the correct slot so that things will be able to be placed securely.

Step 2 – Once the dial is in and everything is lined up the new filter needs to be put back into the refrigerator. It needs to be turned clockwise to make sure it is installed correctly. The filter should click into place.

Step 3 – To make sure the new filter is installed correctly you will need to click the filter reset button on the refrigerator. This button should be held down for 3 seconds. The light should become blue or green to show that the filter has been installed correctly. Some of the modern refrigerators will have a touch screen option that will be able to complete this function. If the lights do not change color look at the fridge again. The filter may not be installed correctly or it may not be fully tightened. Adjusting the filter can allow the refrigerator to work once again.

While a refrigerator will still work without a filter it is not recommended. The water may not be ideal to drink and may contain impurities. Replacing the water filter will allow a person to know that they are getting clean water and ice for their family to enjoy and it is safe for consumption.
