How to Remove Super Glue from Corian Countertops
The following methods you can use may take a little trial and error before you find the perfect removal option. That is okay. Just make sure to do a test before applying any of the remedies.
Different countertops react to different cleansers, etc., in different ways. Corian is not compatible with some chemicals or cleaners, so you do have to be careful which of these items you choose.
Scrape the Counter
Not a fun task but if you use a plastic scraper you should get a lot of that super glue off the counter. The plastic material should not damage or scratch the surface of Corian but be careful when you use this option. You want to have firm pressure but not so much that you scratch the countertop.
This may also be the first step in a 2-step process. Combine it with some of the other methods on this list.
Warm Water & Dishwashing Liquid
If you can, try to catch the spilled glue before it hardens. Then you should be able to just wipe the glue away with a damp sponge. If you are not that quick or did not realize what had happened until it is too late, all is not lost.
Moisten the abrasive side of the sponge with hot water and add a little dishwashing liquid. Next, scrub the area until the glue comes off. Or you can place the altered sponge over the glue stain and let it sit on it for a few hours., Then apply the above process.
You will find this in nail polish remover and in other formats. It is good at dissolving the super glue. Put a little amount on a Q-tip and spread it over the glue. The glue should start to soften almost right away.
Leave a little acetone on top of the glue stain for a few more minutes then wipe it all away with hot water and a clean cloth. Repeat until the stain is completely gone. The drawback to this method is that acetone and Corian countertops may not mix.
It is possible you can damage the countertop using this method. Working with acetone is risky especially for your health. Take the right precautions when using this chemical so you do not harm yourself.
Ice & More
This method involves holding a bag of ice on the glue stain for about 5 minutes or so. You want to hold it there until the glue turns brittle. Next, break off as much super glue as you can. You can use your fingers, scraper, dull knife, and so on.
Then once that is done, use olive oil or peanut butter and a cloth to wipe up the rest of the super glue. Rinse with a damp clean cloth when you are done.
There are a lot of good cleansers on the market that can handle this problem. The drawback is that not all of them will work with Corian. Many will damage the countertop because this is a product that does not like a lot of chemicals.
Glue removing products seem safe to use on non-porous surfaces but read the label just in case. Follow instructions when you find one that works on Corian.
This method is reserved for those times the super glue bottle sticks to your counter. You want to use the heat from the hairdryer to soften the glue. When it becomes soft, just pull the bottle off the counter.
Then use one of the preceding methods to get the rest of the glue off the Corian surface. You can use sandpaper, but you may have to resurface the counter when you are done.
Some Final Words
Super glue can be a tough stain to remove from just about anything. When it lands on your counter, try to act fast and get it before it dries. If you can’t, one of the methods listed above will help you out and get your countertop clean again.
