To learn more about these different grease cleaning methods, just continue to read our article. It has the information you want to know about so your clothes can be grease-free.
How to Clean Grease from Clothes
There are two main categories for grease stains on clothes. Each category has several different options you can try.
Fresh Grease Stains
1. Dishwashing Liquid
This option should have a grease-fighting formula if it is to work on your clothes. The first step is to pour some of this liquid onto the stain, be generous, then using a good brush, scrub the area using a circular motion. You can add more soap if needed.
Once you have finished scrubbing, let the clothing item rest for 30 minutes. After that, toss in the washing machine and run it through a cycle. Use the warmest water setting you can for the material.
2. Baby powder
Just sprinkle enough of this product over the grease stain. You will want your clothing item lying flat so none of the powder falls off. Then wait about 15 minutes before brushing the powder off.
If the stain is gone, you are good to go. If not, wash the item in cold water. After the wash, the stain should be gone.
3. Chalk, Talcum Powder, And Corn Starch
All three of these options work as the baby powder does. You will need to sprinkle a generous amount of these powders (each used separately) and then wait for 10 to 15 minutes before brushing them off.
When that soaking period is over, wash the clothing item or items in cold water and the stain should be gone. These powders work because they are fine enough to get deep down into the threads and soak up the grease.
4. Salt & Rubbing Alcohol
For this method, you need 1 part salt and 3 parts rubbing alcohol. When ready, pour the solution over the grease stain and use a soft cloth to rub it in. After that, let the solution soak the stain for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Then put the clothing item into the washer and wash in cold water. Both the stain and the solution should be gone when the cycle is over.
5. Dry Cleaning Solvent
This can be a bit expensive, and you are using chemicals but if the other methods fail, this is your last-ditch effort to get rid of the stain. Just follow the instructions on the can and make sure you spray enough of the solvent onto the clothing item.
Then wash the clothing item as normal.
Set-In Grease Stains
1. Hairspray
Spray more than enough of this product on the tough grease stain. Then wait 30 minutes before washing the clothing item normally. Let the clothing item air dry. Repeat if necessary
2. Cheese Whiz
This may not be proven scientifically but some people swear that it works. Just coat the stain with this product and rub it in with your fingers. Then wash the clothing item as normal
3. Shampoo
Many shampoos are designed to fight the grease in your hair. Thus, it stands to reason that you can use it on set-in grease stains. The process is simple- just pour, rub it in and then wait 15 minutes before washing. Then let the clothing item or dry.
4. Mechanic’s Soap
This works best on oil, but it should work on other grease stains. Just sprinkle some of this powdered soap on and rub it in. Then wait 30 minutes before repeating the process. Then wash normally. If the stain remains, repeat as often as it takes to get the stain out.
5. WD-40
Spray this product onto your clothes and then wait about 30 minutes before washing immediately after that waiting period has expired. repeat if necessary
6. Coca Cola, RC Cola or Pepsi Cola
Or you can just use any cola soda to get rid of grease stains. Just pour the cola on and let it sit there for 1 to 2 hours. Then wash normally. Also, let the clothing air dry.
7. Aloe Vera Gel
First, you have to soak your clothing in cool water. Then after wringing out the excess moisture, apply the gel to the grease stain. Rub the gel in and then wash your clothing item in your washer using cold water.
8. Lestoil
Lie the other methods, you need to pour this cleaning product directly onto the stain and let it soak for about 20 to 30 minutes. Then wash your clothing. If you are needing to get rid of multiple stains to multiple clothing items, just pour Lestoil directly into your washer and let it do the work.
Some Final Words
Cleaning grease off clothes is not a difficult task when you use the right cleaning tools. The longest time that will be used is the soaking period. But that is a necessary step to get rid of deep-down grease stains.
